Sustainable Destination Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada
Kamloops is located in the heart of British Columbia’s sunny Southern Interior and is easily accessed by road, air, and rail. Throughout the years, Kamloops has transitioned into a bustling urban city while maintaining its western hospitality. The city does not need a lot of planning, as spontaneity is the norm. Doing what feels right, right now and seeing where it takes you.
The city of Kamloops took the decline of honeybees to heart, as they became British Columbia’s first Bee City in 2017. Initiatives such as the Kamloops Beekeepers Club designating May 29th as The International Day of the Honeybee, as well as community gardens, pollinator brochures and a pesticide-free bylaw all played instrumental roles in the city achieving this designation. Additional projects that came out of this achievement were a downtown bee art mural, edible gardens at the Kamloops Visitor Centre, and the Rotary Pollinator Garden at the BC Wildlife Park.
