We’re fond of South Limburg and we love Maastricht. We wrote about both of them in our blog last Monday already. When discovering the beautiful city Maastricht and it’s surroundings a nice sustainable hotel is all we need. That’s why we would like to introduce you to the Designhotel Maastricht.
The hotel is situated in the heart of Maastricht, in the trendy Wyck district only a 10-minute walk from the Vrijthof. The Design Hotel is eco certified by our esteemed ecolabel partner Green Key. They have an economic policy on electricity and water, but also on saving towels and offering a healthy and if possible local breakfast. In addition, the hotel is almost completely equipped with second-hand furniture and accessories.
Take a short trip to the Bisschopsmolen, the water mill which was built in the 11th century is hidden in the city center of Maastricht. Since 2005 the mill has been used to grind cereals (oats, quinoa and buckwheat), according to the authentic process. Since that time the mill has also been part of the baker’s shop “De Bischopsmolen” where you can not only enjoy a real Limburg pie or a fresh spelled bread, but also get a guided tour. According to the Maastricht people, you can also eat the best cherry pie here. All we can say is: try it yourself! If you rather go for a real hike in the stunning surroundings, visit the Sint Pietersberg. It’s a wonderful place to walk together, enjoy the view over Maastricht or to view the famous castle of André Rieu! When hiking you can also enter the ENCI quarry, a marl quarry that is transformed from a working quarry to an area to hike and enjoy the nature. Don’t miss the viewing plateau for a breathtaking view over the quarry.
