Eco-certification
Travelife was developed in 2007 in response to a growing global understanding that businesses needed to take a more proactive role in operating responsibly to address climate change and conservation. Travelife is now recognized within the travel and tourism industry as one of the most comprehensive and credible tools, recognized by GSTC.
To achieve the Travelife Gold certification, hotels must undertake an independent onsite audit against the 163-point in the Travelife sustainability criteria. The criteria encompass aspects such as environmental issues, labor conditions, community integration and guest engagement.
- The certificate is valid for 2 years.
- Travelife has a network of approximately 60 independent contract auditors who have been trained by an external auditing consultant.

Best practices
Travelife certified hotels must comply with strict criteria around human rights, labour issues, environmental management, and community engagement. These can help travel companies comply with regulations and legislation that impact their supply chain, such as the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015 and the expected new EU Plastics Strategy.
