In order to position Chile as a world-class tourist destination, and become recognized by having an attractive, diverse, sustainable and quality tourist offer, the Chilean National Tourism Service, SERNATUR, created Sello S, which is responsible of promoting a more sustainable tourist industry. Sello S guarantees to visitors accommodations that meet global tourism sustainability criteria in the social and cultural, environmental and economic areas. Sello S applies to tourist accommodations operated in Chile.
Sello S guarantees visitors that the tourist service that has this distinctive, meets global criteria for sustainable tourism in the socio cultural, environmental and economic areas.
For now, the Seal S applies only for tourist accommodation services, tour operators and travel agencies operating in Chile.
The Ecocamp Patagonia, located in the heart of Torres del Paine National Park, is an accommodation certified by Sello S. Ecocamp Patagonia became a Carbon Neutral Company in 2008. They take a lot of measures to make sure as little paper, tin and plastic as possible ends up in the wilderness. The organic waste goes to the pigs on their neighboring farm and other waste to Punta Arenas for recycling. Their accommodations are shaped like domes, to conserve neutral energy and heat.
