Our little motel was built in the 1960s when motel style accommodation was all the rage. The motor vehicle was king, so a special spot right near your room to park it was paramount! Tasmania is the perfect place to road trip, and whats a road trip without a night or two in a vintage motel accommodation. It harks to a simpler era, of family holidays long past. It's not perfect, but who or what is? When we came across this little place it was in need of serious renovation and TLC. Sure we could have bulldozed it to share the fate of many other similar properties, but we didn't. It certainly would have been much easier to just start from scratch rather than having to repair to oodles of old wiring, plumbing, and sub standard 'renovations' over the 40 years plus it has existed. But we didn't want to rip the soul out of the place, as its a testament to an era of travel that we want to celebrate and protect. So whilst we have tried to combine modern comforts we do so without sacrificing our little motel's past. Situated on the river, the humble simplicity of the motel combined with the tranquility of the river precinct are what makes this place very special indeed!
Situated on the banks of the Inglis river, The Waterfront Wynyard offers a range of accommodation types in their motel units, all north-facing, with views across the waterfront precinct. For your entertainment, the property also has kayaks, golf clubs and bikes for guest use. The guest lounge is open Monday to Thursday evenings and offers guests a selection of local Tasmanian wines and beers to enjoy whilst soaking in the views. The motel is just a few minutes' drive from the Burnie/Wynyard Airport and 20 minutes' drive from Burnie. It is 45 minutes' drive from Devonport and Stanley and 1.5 hours from Cradle Mountain. All rooms have reverse-cycle air-conditioning to keep you comfortable during your stay. All rooms also have tea/coffee making facilities, minibar items for purchase and private en suite bathrooms with showers. Also included in all rooms is a flat-screen Smart TV and free WiFi. Offering a traditional motel-style layout, all guest rooms are situated next to each other and parking is right at your front door. Guests can enjoy views of the waterfront precinct right from their doorstep or from the guest lounge area. The Waterfront Wynyard is a couple of minutes' walk to a range of eateries in the Wynyard main street. There are great walks along the river and sea front for those looking to take in a stroll after a long day of touring.
